A common mistake is thinking that Droid means Android, when in fact it is a brand name for a particular brand of Android phone. Motorola has a model called the Droid, Droid 2, DROID 2 Global, DROID X and Droid X2. While HTC has the DROID INCREDIBLE and the DROID INCREDIBLE 2.
The next question you’re probably thinking is which Droid is best?
All the Droid’s mentioned above do not make use of Verizon’s 4G network speeds, and haven’t received the upgrade to Gingerbread (Android 2.3). There are unofficial versions of Gingerbread available if you have rooted your Droid, and there will be official up dates in the near future.
Essentially the difference between Motorola’s Droid 2 and DroidX2 is that the Droid 2 has a slide out physical QWERTY keyboard, while the Droid X2 makes use just the virtual keyboard. The Droid 2 and the Droid 2 Global are very similar with the exception that the Droid 2 Global will work anywhere in the world that there is a network as it runs on CDMA and GSM. Don’t forget that international roaming rates can be fairly high.
The Droid 2 Global is geared more for the corporate sector, so this is probably a good alternative to the BlackBerry Bold if you are looking for a solid business phone. The Droid 2 has a 1.2 GHz processor, 8 GB on board memory, microSD memory card slot for 32 MB, 5 mega pixel camera, and a 3.7 inch screen. A big plus to the Droid 2 is the battery life, 8 and a half hours of talk time and just over a day of standby time. This is crucial for most people, especially as a business phone. The keyboard is an improvement on the original Droid, with slightly raised keys making it easier to navigate around the slightly cramped four row keyboard. The voice quality was not as crisp as you might like it to be, but is adequate.
The Droid X2 and Droid Incredible 2 both do not make use of the physical keyboard, and have a similar candy bar style design. Hence, are often competing for the same market.
Both phones are running a 1 GHz processors, and clear voice calling. The Droid X2 has a slightly bigger screen at 4.3 inches (960 x 540 pixels) with a large amount of pixels making images appear sharp. As a result, the Droid X2 is slightly heavier (5.5 ounces) and larger (5 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches HWD) than the Droid Incredible. This being said the Droid Incredible 2 an impressive glass capacitive touch screen that is also impressive. Even though the Droid X2 has a 5 mega pixel camera, the Droid 2X has a more impressive camera than the Droid Incredible’s 8 mega pixel camera which didn’t perform well with sharpness and color not that crisp.
The HTC Droid Incredible 2 is a world phone (runs on GSM and CDMA networks), hence,
a better choice if you intend to travel internationally.
Between the Droid 2 Global, Droid Incredible 2 and Droid X2 which is better?
The Droid 2 Global is a good choice if you are looking for a business phone with reasonable battery life, a decent keyboard (though there are better keyboards available), a quick processor and are happy with average voice quality.
Between the Droid Incredible 2 and the Droid X2 its not that clear cut. The Droid X2 has just been released with an impressive screen, quick processor and solid general features. The only thing missing to make this a top Verizon phone is 4G connectivity. Hence, the Motorola Droid X2 leads the way amongst the Droids.
However, the HTC ThunderBolt is still leading the way as Verizon’s number one Android because of the 4G connectivity.
